Over the last few years, it has been heartening to see how the relationship between Australia and India is continuing to build momentum.
In November 2024, India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar, officially inaugurated the Consulate General of India to Queensland in Brisbane. This was a diplomatic milestone for a relationship that has been deepening across trade, defence and cultural ties. Watch the inauguration
That same month, in an op-ed for the Indian Express, the Australian High Commissioner to India made the case for looking past our traditional cricket rivalries to the business opportunities that lie beyond it. Earlier in 2024, I wrote an article published in the Financial Express about India and Australia trade “picking up strong tailwinds across the Indian Ocean.” I commented on the impact of the Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement on bilateral trade and the opportunity it presents to boost supply chains and our defence partnerships.
